Snow Shack

By George Bounacos · Comments (0)

A Great Site For Snow Sport Lovers

Snow Shack

My family loves Snow Shack. While I don’t follow their sports, I recently shopped there for them and quickly learned why they love shopping here.

If you need it, use it, want it, or have seen it for snow sports, Snow Shack, sells it. The site says they are a "Ski, Snowboard and Snowsports Accessories" shop, but they are much more, carrying apparel to winter sports videos and DVDs. They have items for men, women, kids, and unisex stuff. and hundreds of name brand items.

Navigation

SnowShack is a large site but easy to navigate with good menus and a great search. The important information links are on the left side so you don’t have to search for information on shipping, returns or customer service.

The product descriptions are very detailed and helpful with a special feature to let shoppers enlarge photos to dsee the item’s details.

After checking out with a major credit card, you’ll receive a confirmation number followed by an email. A few days later, your shipping notification email will arrive, complete with tracking numbers.

When I Went To The SnowShack

My sons needed "wicked warm" gloves for ice fishing and other snow sports, and I wanted to buy my husband a few things. I did a lot of lookin because I wasn’t sure what to get exactly, but the descriptions and comparisons helped me a lot.

SnowShack sells high quality items that aren’t for casual snow bunnies.

If you refer five friends who order from SnowShack, you get FREE SHIPPING on your next order. Like their other functions, the referral process is easy with a point-and-click interface. SnowShack also sends special promotiosn and raffles to existing customer by email.

Shipping and Returns

Save 10% when you sign up for the Shack Report!
Shipping is dependent on weight and method. SnowShack uses UPS and US Postal Service shipping as well as a number of expedited shipping options. They ship to Canada too. The only downside is you don’t learn actual shipping costs until you’re ready to checkout — like a computer store, the shipping is based on what you buy.

You can return any unused item for a refund minus shipping charges within 30 days. You may also exchange for something else. If you want an exchange quickly, you can order what you want and input the coupon code "EXCHANGEORDER". You will receive free shipping on that order and then you can send back the item you don’t want and get a refund. I like that a lot. I hate waiting for exchanges and yet don’t want to make a new order and pay double shipping. This is the first time I have seen this type of offer on a website and I shop on many, many sites.

The Bottom Line about SnowShack, Clicks and All

SnowShack is a great site with just a couple minor things that tick me off. I don’t like not knowing what my shipping charges are until I go through the checkout process. And I don’t like that they don’t have a toll free customer service number.

Aside from those two minor things, this site is great. They have so many items from fairly inexpensive to very expensive and so many brand names that I can’t imagine you would not be able to find what you were looking for if it pertained to snow sports on the site. Navigation is fairly straightforward, descriptions are very good, and prices seem to be competitive.

Bogey Busters

By George Bounacos · Comments (1)

Bogey Busters is a Bust. Not Enough Good to Outweigh the Bad.

Bogey Busters

Golf. Yeck. I am not a fan but my husband is a golfer and I wanted to buy him something for Christmas last year that he would like. Of course, since I know very little about golf supplies, I had to do a lot of searching and guessing.

I landed at Bogey Busters purely on accident. Once there, I saw they had a vast variety of gulf accessories and merchandise and decided I would take a look at the prices and products and, with the help of my now-and-then golfer sons, would pick out something my husband would actually use. (I thought a golf ball was a golf ball but I learned fast, there are many variables that go into choosing a golf ball. My husband still has a nice box of them that I bought him three years ago. Unused. I guess they don’t, uh, go far enough or something.)

What the Site Sells

This site sells everything anything golf related. Bags clubs, training aids, towels, novelty golf gifts, books, outerwear, even golf carts.

Navigation

This is a simple site with a long list of category links on the left side of the page and a selection of featured items on the home page. Pretty much all you need is easy to find as far as contact info, tracking, return policies, etc. There is also a search box which makes the time spent looking for a particular item much less than if you had to browse through the inventory.

Click on a category link and several little photos pop up with subcategories. Click on the subcategory and you see little photos of each item available and the price. You have to click once more to see a larger photo of the item and a description. That is a lot of clicking to get to one item. Still, descriptions are good and prices are very clearly posted.

You click to add to your cart and will be met with several other items you may want in addition to the one you chose.

When done shopping, you go to the checkout which is the standard yellow and white Yahoo checkout that those who shop online a lot will be familiar with.

You don’t see what your shipping costs are until after you fill out the information form with your name, address, phone number, and the type of shipping you want. The only option I was given was Ground.

After filling out the form, you continue on to actually purchase the item(s). Many items have free shipping. Others have fairly reasonable shipping charges in line with other similar websites. The shipping is based on weight and location.

Once you input your major credit card and it is verified, you get an immediate verification of your order. You are not charged until the order actually is shipped, which is a plus. You will get an email telling you the order is on its way and will give you a tracking number to track it on their site.

Your order will arrive between a few days and 14 days depending on location.

My Experience

I was a bit lost on the site, not because it is confusing, because it isn’t, but because I had no idea what was "good" golfing stuff.

I eventually settled on an American Flag driver headcover and a gift card. If this were a beauty site, I would have known what to get but golf? Nahh.

The shipping was free for both the gift certificate (which is paper and goes to the recipient via email immediately) and headcover. I didn’t like that the certificate went to my husband right then. I wanted a gift card or certificate to give to him physically but it doesn’t seem possible. In addition, if you are buying more than one gift certificate for more than one person, you have to make separate orders for each so that they go to the correct recipient.

And what if the person you are buying for doesn’t have an email address? I don’t know. I guess they lose. This is a flaw of the site but, since it is online, they must assume everyone shopping there actually has an email address.

The order went through fine and I got a letter about three days after I placed the it that the headcover was on the way. Meanwhile, I was busy hacking into my husband’s email account to catch the gift certificate and send it to myself until Christmas.

It took about ten days for my order to arrive and it was OK. Not the best quality I ever saw but passable.

My husband later said he wasn’t impressed at all with the brands offered on the site but my heart "was in the right place" when I bought the gift certificate. Sheesh. He found something and got it but again said the quality was only passable and not much more.

Prices were decent for most items and they did have a lot of sales and specials.

But I will not go back there again because they don’t have the brands my husband uses and I sure don’t want golf supplies.

They accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, checks, or money orders.

Shipping and Returns

You will see when you click on an item whether it has free shipping or not. Shipping is always free for golf bags, carts, DVDs, shoes, and headcovers. Gift certificates are only available online and have no shipping charges either. Other items are shipped via UPS and the rate depends on weight and location. You have to go through the whole shopping process before you know what that shipping is.

They do have a 30 day money back guarantee but, like many sites, there are a few catches. The return has to be in new, unused condition in its original packaging. You will not get your shipping back if you paid for shipping and obviously have to pay return shipping.

You can get a store credit or the credit card you used will be credited. If you want to make an exchange, they want you to send the item back and reorder whatever it is that you want (and pay shipping again if there is any) so they really don’t exchange items.

Here’s what I don’t like. If you got free shipping, then return an item, they will deduct shipping charges from your credit. So, you are out shipping to them and whatever shipping charges they decide to charge you even if you didn’t pay to have the product shipped in the first place. That’s lame.

You need to contact the site for an RMA before returning anything.

Conclusion

This is an underwhelming website that has a lot of golfing supplies and novelties and seemingly decent prices (I am not very familiar with prices of this type of item).

The problem is, the brands carried aren’t what my golfer husband considers quality names.

In addition, if you have to return something and didn’t pay shipping to receive it, you will pay to return it and your refund will be deducted the amount of shipping that would have been charged if you didn’t get free shipping.

Gift certificates go to the recipient immediately and are a bit of a pain to use. You can’t get a gift card or the thing sent to you via snail mail and if you send the certificate to yourself to print off, your name will be on it as the recipient.

All things considered, this isn’t a very good website. I didn’t have a dreadful experience but the whole thing was somewhat subpar and we won’t go back again.

I give this site 2 stars. There’s things about it I just don’t like and which will keep me from going back. I suspect this is a drop ship company that doesn’t stock the items but has the wholesaler send them out which can be a real pain if you want to make a return.

I see no reason for the serious golfer or even the weekend warrior to shop at this online store when there are better ones with higher quality items elsewhere.

My husband summed it up well. "Next time just go to Dick’s Sporting Goods."

Touché.

Ugg Superstore

By George Bounacos · Comments (0)

This Site is Extremely Average With Above Average Shipping Costs

Ugg Superstore

Uggs and similar footwear aren’t just for winter! I recently saw some sheepskin sandals and clogs in a magazine and went on the hunt for some.

I landed at Ugg Superstore where they sell a wide variety of Ugg and other similar styled footwear and accessories.

What They Sell

Ugg Superstore — which redirects to Superlamb Footwear, probably because they no longer sell just Ugg brand — sells a decent selection of Ugg, Qwaruba, Koolaburra, Ardney, and Kaz sheepskin and suede long and short boots, clogs, sandals, slippers, and accessories for men and women.

Navigation

The site is clean and easy to navigate. Click on a category or brand name and you can see all that is offered. Yon can perform a search for specific items as well. The search engine, however, is not so great. I put the word “clogs” in and cane up with no results but later found several pairs for sale.

When you do find something you like, there is a small picture and a description of the item. You can click on color and size if needed then add to your cart.

When you get to the checkout, you have to jump through the same hoops as you would on most sites. You can continue as a guest without choosing a user name and password for email updates or join and get the updates.

You have a choice of UPS Ground or USPS Priority mail and they provide a shipping list by price as well as weight so you can get an idea of what you will be paying for shipping.

Once you choose your shipping method, your shipping amount appears along with your total. You input your major credit card and will get a confirmation of your order almost immediately.

Another email will come, usually the next day, with shipping and tracking info.

You should get your order within a week depending on your location. They are in California, and my order took a week from the day I placed it which is pretty good since I am in New York.

Shipping and Returns

Shipping charges range from $7.90 to $46.50. I think the shipping is a bit high considering how light most of the items are. If you ordered a pair of short Ugg Boots, shipping would be $13.50 UPS and $16.50 USPS. Way too much considering their prices are premium and Uggs can be found elsewhere for cheaper and with little or no shipping (I got my last pair at Zappos for cheaper than at this site and with no shipping charges).

Returns are fairly standard. They will accept new, unworn, unused products within 30 days of purchase. You will get a refund minus shipping charges both ways.

There is a 25% restocking fee if you return items after 30 days, if you use the shoebox as the shipping box, if you don’t return the shoebox (meaning they want you to double box the items upping your shipping back to them considerably), or if an item is returned dirty.

If two or more of the offenses occur, you will not be able to return the item(s) and the order will sent back to you at your expense.

Clearance merchandise cannot be returned under any circumstances.

My Experience and Recommendation

I ended up buying a pair of their own label, Kaz, sandals because they were on sale and looked very comfortable. The price was good but the shipping hurt and probably made the sandals not such great a deal after all.

I crossed my fingers hoping that I picked the right size, as there is no size chart on the site that I could find.

My order went through fine and I got a confirmation email. I got a tracking number the next day and the sandals arrived in a week.

They’re nice and do fit right but I am not overwhelmed with them. They are made fairly well. They looked better on the site.

I did email the site to ask about how to best care for the sandals and it took quite a while for a reply. I finally got one and it was somewhat impersonal and not very helpful.

I went to Ugg Australia’s site and read up on how to care for the materials instead.

This site is decent with some variety but their shipping costs are high and their return policy is really strict. They don’t have a toll free number and it takes quite a while for an email reply. I won’t be going back to the site because I see no advantage of it over other sites that sell the same or similar products.

I give this website 3 stars. If you find something you really like and the price is good including the shipping, you will get your order in a timely fashion. But comparison shop because there are sites out there with good sales, low or no shipping, and better return policies. This is an average site with an average amount of merchandise at average to high prices. The quality is good and, if you find a deal, your order will be processed quickly and you should have no major problems.

Great Quality and Tons of Variety Take the Sting Out of High Prices

Nashville Boot Company

I’m a sucker for western boots. Or, well, any boots. I ran across Nashville Boot Company Online Store when I was searching for a site that sold a certain pair of western boots I just HAD to have. They did so I made an order with them.

My experience was a good one but their prices are a bit higher than sites like Sheplers. Variety is much higher though so, if you want boots that are hard to find, this place probably has them.

What the Site Sells

This site sells boots. Many, many pairs of boots. They sell western, work, casual and outdoor boots and shoes. The emphasis, though, is on the western styles. They also sell some accessories like handbags, belts, and wallets but there isn’t much variety there.

Navigation and Ordering

The site is a simple one. You can search by style, brand name, or category. You can hone your search down further by choosing men’s or women’s styles. Photos are very good but they only show one view. I would prefer to see at least two views. Descriptions are ample.

To buy something, pick your size (if needed) and add it to your cart. Shipping is a flat $6.50 per item and $5.00 for each additional item which is great for boots but not so great for a belt or a wallet. There are several expedited shipping methods for a higher fee and they do ship internationally.

Once you are finished shopping, you go to the checkout. Your shipping charge will be displayed and you will be prompted for the usual personal info — name, address, phone, and email address. If you choose to pay by credit card, supply the number and expiry and you will receive a confirmation email immediately. If you choose to pay by mail (check or money order), you can print out the order form and send in the payment or call the company to pay.

After a day or so, you will receive a shipping confirmation email and your order should arrive quickly — within about five days.

My Experience

The boots I wanted were overpriced. I will say that right up front. I later found them (after buying them at this site) for about $30.00 cheaper on another site with free shipping. Ouch! However, at the time, they were out of stock everywhere and I am not one to wait. I will say though that other sites are selling the same boots for the same price so this site’s prices aren’t way whacked. Navigating was easy and I enjoyed looking at all the styles. Many were very expensive and some handbags cost as much as celebrity designer bags. Yikes. I added my boots to my cart and paid the $6.50 shipping. I was not charged tax.

I received a confirmation email after paying with my MasterCard and then, just a day later, I received a tracking number. My boots arrived four days after I received the shipping email. They were exactly as pictured and expected and I do love them. I just wish I had waited a week and saved myself 30 bucks. Still, the boots are awesome.

I considered calling the site to see if they price matched but I saw no info about it so I ate the extra dollars and enjoyed the boots.

Shipping and Returns

Standard shipping in the US is $6.50 per item and $5.00 per additional item. There are a number of expedited shipping options for a fee as well and an international shipping chart.

Sales tax is charged only in Tennessee.

Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase but items must show no signs of wear and have the original tags on them. You will need to call customer service before returning the items and they must be in their original box. There is no restocking fee and no return shipping fee for exchanges.

Wrap Up

Nashville Boot Company Online Store has loads of quality boots and shoes and some accessories. Their prices aren’t super inflated but some items can be found cheaper on other sites so it pays to comparison shop before committing to a purchase. Their shipping rates are fair if you are buying boots or shoes, not so fair if you just want a wallet (and they are very pricey) or something light and small.

There is no way around it. This site has some incredibly pricey merchandise on it. It is high quality though and, if you can’t find the identical item elsewhere for less, you won’t have issues ordering from this site. It’s tough to rate this one. I am going to go with 4 stars. All was fine but I paid more than I needed to. Still, I got what I wanted when I wanted it and my transaction was flawless.

Free McDonald’s Sandwiches

By admin · Comments (0)

McDonald’s continues promoting its two new chicken sandwiches — the breakfast biscuit and the southern style chicken.

We have seen orders fulfilling from Amazon.com this week that include a coupon for each sandwich in each box. While you can’t easily control how many boxes Amazon’s centers use to ship your order, the coupons have been inserted in each, much like the Cell Phones for Soldiers promotion at the holidays.

Others are reporting wireless companies promoting the sandwich, as well as direct mail (don’t throw out those coupons — they’re good for a free meal!).

So with all this going on to promote the new sandwiches, has anyone tasted one yet?
