CNet, the voice of technology we always use when purchasing any electronics, loved the Asus EEE PC 900 when it was released in May.  Notebook guru Dan Ackerman showed how the Asus screen size had increased two inches while the machine stayed almost the same width through some sharp engineering.  CNet gave the slick looking white netbook a “Very Good” rating, as did 11 consumers.  Ackerman made one comment about the keyboard being small but otherwise loved the machine.

What he didn’t love — and we didn’t either — was the street price at $549.

Now, we have found an awesome coupon for you that takes the Asus down to about  half its 2008 price!

ASUS Eee PC 900 16G – Linux – Netbook – Pearl White Now only $299.99.

At $300, this Netbook is a steal.   A main article in this month’s Wired magazine describes the year of the Netbook.  I know we’ll be buying at least two at this price.  At only $300 with a 9 inch display at 16 gigabyte hard drive (solid state to boot — just like a thumb drive!), you can’t go wrong buying at least one.

We’ll be reviewing the machine and mystery shopping OnSale again while we’re at it.   Do the same because the darling of last spring isn’t going to last forever at this price when sites like CNet are touting its virtues.
