I am a huge fan of relaxation, not that I do it much. I also like the soothing sounds of white noise — sounds like rain, surf, wind, and other masking, non-verbal things. For me, white noise is important because I have tinnitus — ringing and other sounds in my ears — that can cause me to lose sleep. Other times I like to listen to white noise to relax and concentrate while I work. Although I love my Marsona TSC-330 White Noise Machine, I enjoy the CDs that Pure White Noise offers as a compliment to the white noise machine and for variety.

I have tried a number of environmental and white noise CDs and the ones offered on Pure White Noise are truly superior to others, in my opinion. And the selection is great.

What Pure White Noise Sells

This website sells white noise CDs and cassette tapes for adults, children, and babies to help lull them to sleep or to aid in relaxation, mask sounds, or to meditate with. The site has a wide variety of environmental CDs as well as other sounds that have been proven to mask bothersome noise and soothe the senses. They sell single CDs and sets specifically designed for certain age groups or situations.

The home page highlights many of the CDs for sale on the site as well as special gift packs and collections. They have some great information on exactly what white noise is and the difference between white noise on CD and via a machine. They also have a section for media write-ups and testimonials.

The home page has thumbnails of each of the CDs offered with sound clips of each. I love this feature as I have some hearing loss and can’t hear certain high pitches. I thought I would love “Summer Nights” but a quick listen to the sound clip told me I wouldn’t enjoy the CD as the crickets and other night creatures were lost on me (although my son could hear them).

You can choose to buy single CDs or to buy special sets of CDs designed for certain purposes. The baby CDs are actually very soothing for both babies and adults so don’t bypass the baby CDs thinking only babies and children will benefit from the soothing sounds. In fact, the “Baby by the Sea” CD is one of my all time favorites, incorporating the surf and beautiful soothing instrumental music that makes me weepy!

Your cart will update with the total cost and the shipping cost. You will only need to pay sales tax in Florida.

My Experience

I really enjoy the soothing sounds of the shore, a thunderstorm, and the wind. My Marsona is a great little white noise machine but the CDs I have from Pure White Noise have some advantages. First, I can control the bass and treble which helps me to hear certain pitches that I can’t with my machine. Also, the sound is in stereo. Lastly, there are different varieties of white noise that my machine doesn’t have, including some with instrumental music and, one of my favorites, thunder along with rain. It sounds just like a real thunderstorm and nothing helps me to sleep soundly like a good old-fashioned rainstorm complete with thunder!

When I first visited the site, I listened to clips of every CD offered. It’s quite fun to hear the different sounds and to pick your favorites. You don’t have to guess what you will be getting which is a tremendous plus.

I picked four CDs and added them to my cart and input my name, address, and email address. I then used my Visa to make my purchase and that was that. I got a confirmation email immediately after the transaction and another shipping one a couple days later. My order arrived well packed about a week after my shipping notification arrived.

I adore the CDs and made backups in case I ever misplace or break the originals. I often use them when I am writing to relax and soothe my senses and I also use them at night when I want a change from my white noise machine. The CDs can loop meaning I can choose whether to have them play for the 45 minutes to one hour they last and stop, or keep on playing all night long. I usually only need them to play once and I am out.

I am very pleased with the sound quality and authenticity of these CDs. The surf sounds exactly like the surf and the thunderstorm makes me believe there is truly a rainstorm going on outside my window. The “Winds of White Noise” CD is eerily soothing as the wind blows and whooshes. Lastly, the “Baby by the Sea” CD, which is the only CD I bought with music (really wonderful slow versions of nursery rhymes, no less) is just beautiful. The sea and the music blend together to totally relax me. I can see why colicky babies or ones who are light sleepers would benefit from the baby CDs. I highly recommend them for your baby if he or she is colicky, restless, or sensitive to household noises.

In this world of stress and sleepless nights, Pure White Noise can ease tension and allow you to get a wonderful night’s sleep. In addition, these CDs are great for concentration and relaxation or even for offices where you want to mask voices and other noises.

For $12.95 or under per CD (cheaper per title for the gift packs), there truly are no better white noise CDs around. I have paid over $60.00 for a couple CDs and I never listen to them as they just don’t sound realistic or soothing. Pure White Noise’s CDs nail the sounds while providing the white noise that so many people find relaxing and soothing. With so many choices, everyone can find something that relaxes them.

And don’t forget pets! These CDs can sooth an anxious kitten or puppy and can be left on when you are out to give your pet a sense of familiarity and relaxation.

Shipping and Returns

There are several shipping methods available. For first class mail, the kind I chose, shipping is $3.50 for a single CD, single cassette, or single multi-pack. Additional single CDs, single cassettes, or single multi-packs are order will cost $1.00 more each.

Priority Mail is an additional $3.40 per order.

Expedited shipping is available for an extra charge and there is an international shipping chart as well on the site.

I am not real thrilled with the returns policy only because they charge a 20% restocking fee on unopened returned CDs. I don’t think that is fair considering the CD hasn’t even been used. You also do not get shipping refunded which is standard. Opened CDs are not returnable for obvious reasons. You could easily copy the CDs then return them. Defective CDs will be exchanged or refunded with a valid RMA number.

They do not provide a phone number which is another negative along with the restocking fee. However, customer service is very attentive and got back to me very quickly when I wrote them with a question. Still, I always prefer to have a contact phone number when I shop online.

Conclusion

Pure White Noise only sells white noise CDs and tapes. These types of CDs/tapes are not an afterthought, they are their whole business and it shows. I have listened to a variety of different white noise CDs over the years that I bought everywhere from Wal-Mart to the highest priced websites and I enjoy Pure White Noise’s CDs the best. They have a certain quality about them that really does the trick for me. I feel instantly relaxed and calmer, I fall asleep faster, and I concentrate better when I play any of my four CDs. I am considering buying one more for the heck of it but haven’t yet decided which.

Quality is a definite 5 stars. Ease of navigation, ability to sample clips, and price are also 5 stars. Ordering ease, 5 stars. Shipping and customer service, another 5 stars. Returns, 3 stars. I don’t like paying a 20% restocking fee for unopened CDs returned although I never returned one for any reason. Another 3 stars for not having a proper customer service phone number published on the site.

I give this site 4 stars. I highly recommend the CDs from this site if you are looking for something soothing to help you sleep, concentrate, relax, or mask noise. I also can’t recommend the baby/kid’s CDs enough. My niece lived through her colicky baby’s fussiness, in part, by using two of the CDs sold by Pure White Noise produced especially for colicky, restless babies. Heck, even animals can benefit from these CDs!

The price is amazing for the quality and I am sure you will have no complaints after listening to any of the CDs or tapes sold on the site.
