When They Get a Toll Free Number, I’ll Stop Complaining About Their High Prices. NOT!

Your Cosmetics

I love cosmetics and skin care products and also love to try new things. I frequent many websites for deals, hard to find products, and things that are a little out of the ordinary.

I discovered Your Cosmetics when looking for an Alexandra de Markoff item that my friend thought was absolutely wonderful and insisted I try.

What the Site Sells

This site sells high-end cosmetics, bath and body products, skin care, some cosmetics, and fragrance (both for the home and body).

Variety

There are several name brands offered but I have only heard of two or three of them. They are very expensive brands from what I can see and nothing on the site is for the consumer looking to find products for low prices. The variety is pretty good, though, within each brand name and, if you’ve got the money and the need, you will probably find something or many somethings you just gotta have.

Navigation

The website is simple. You can shop by category or by brand name or do a search for the product of your choice. Each product you click on has a decent description and the price as well as suggestions of other products you may want to go along with the one you are looking at.

They have a clearance section that is stocked nicely with an assortment of products and, if you are looking for top brand items but don’t want to pay the steep prices, good deals can be found in this section.

They have a section for new items as well.

Buying is simple. You click on the item(s) you want and they are added to your cart. When you click to add to the cart, you are greeted with a few questions about your skin tone and your personal fragrance preferences so they can send you personalized samples. I like that they try to personalize the samples they send for your skin type and preference rather than randomly throwing in a sample or two of something you can’t use. You only need to answer the question the first time you add something to the cart, after that, you can continue shopping and adding without answering any more questions.

Once you have finished with your order, you proceed to the check out. You must register to complete your order online or call their NON TOLL FREE long distance telephone number (208 area code) during their business orders to complete the order by phone. Registration is the usual info — Name, address, email address, etc. that most sites need to ship your products and keep you updated about your order. You then pick a password to use the next time you shop on the site.

Once you’re registered, you continue on. You can finish the order with a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) and you will receive an order number and a verification of your order in email almost immediately. You will receive a second email when your order is shipped out with a tracking number that you use on the site.

Shipping and Returns

Shipping is free for orders over $50.00 and $5.95 for orders less than that. You can choose to upgrade shipping to a faster method for an additional cost.

The Return Policy is one I don’t like. You can return unopened, unused products in salable condition within 14 days. You must also return any samples you received with that product and you may not return opened items under any circumstances. I hate that. When you are talking about high priced skin and body products, how can any website expect consumers to know if a product will cause a reaction or do what it claims? I shy away from no return websites especially when the prices are as high as the prices on this site.

Clearance items, fragrance, and some other items are non-returnable under ANY circumstances.

You need to get a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number to return a product and, if the product you return brings your order under $50.00, you will be charged $5.95 shipping. That is, it will be deducted from your refund. Blah. Too much too worry about when there are a million websites out there that don’t quibble as much.

My Experience

I found the product I wanted and I ordered it with no problems. Because the product wasn’t $50 or more, I ended up finding a few clearance items to get to that $50 mark and avoid shipping costs.

Ordering was painless. Shipping took a while, though. It took two weeks for my order to arrived via standard ground shipping. I did receive two foil samples with my order which was a nice extra. They were only good for one use but gave me an idea of what the products were like.

I didn’t like one of the items I bought but I didn’t even bother to try to return it because it was a clearance item (but an expensive one) and that would have meant my shipping would have gone from free to $5.95 and it was all not worth the fight.

The one product I did go especially to this site for was fine. I wasn’t in love with it like my friend but that has no bearing on the site.

Contact Info

You can call customer service at 208-939-8063 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Mountain Time or you can email them at customerservice@your-cosmetics.com with your phone number and they will return your call.

Conclusion

This is an expensive website. There are no price guarantees and the prices are elite. The brand names range from Alexandra de Markoff to Dessert Beauty (Jessica Simpson’s “edible” line of body and face powders and creams) to names I never heard of and that have price tags I won’t pay. Although my own experience was pretty straight forward — barring the 14 day wait for my order — I am not thrilled that they have a long distance number to call and their return policy is not at all liberal. I refuse to spend $50.00 on a product only to find it causes irritation or allergies and not be able to return it.

I think it is petty to insist that the samples be returned when you return an item and the whole shipping thing — charging you shipping if you return an item that brings your order below the $50.00, while done on some other sites, also seems petty.

High prices, obscure names, customer service not having a toll free number, and a pretty awful return policy make this a site I won’t return to. You can get some deals in the clearance area but the regular prices are not discounted and don’t even try to compete with other websites. I can’t go further than 3 stars.

My experience, as I said, was OK. But I won’t go back there for the reasons stated above.
