I Had a Good Experience But I Don’t Recommend That You Shop Here

I wanted to buy my sister a Tanita scale because I swear by them and she was embarking on a new diet and had a junky, quirky scale. I did a search and found a load of great priced Tanita scales, among other things, at Healthy Style Products.
What the Site Sells
This site sells things for the home, outdoors, babies and kids, personal care, health and fitness, and other items. I don’t see a true “healthy” trend going on but most things are useful and priced well.
Navigation
This is a simple site with links on the left side for categories. The hone page has thumbnails of several items they are highlighting or are on sale. There is a search feature as well but it is a bit inaccurate.
Click on a catalogue, see the subcategories and then find what you like. The small thumbnail will enlarge and a short description and price will be displayed. If you want an item, click to add it to your cart.
This is a typical yahoo store and the checkout system is one most online shoppers will be familiar with. The yellow and white checkout asks for your personal info before you see your shipping charges. I hate that. But at least you don’t have to give your credit card details before you find out what your shipping charge is.
Choose from FedEx Ground, Next Day Air, Next Day Air Saver, Second Day Air, and Third Day Select shipping methods.
The site accepts Visa, MasterCard, and AmEx.
You will get a confirmation email with an order number. You will receive another email when the order ships with a tracking number. Your order should arrive within the timeframe of the shipping method you chose. Sales tax is only charged in the state of Maryland.
My Experience
I didn’t do a lot of browsing because I knew what I wanted. They have a large selection of Tanita scales at good prices and all I had to do is pick the one I wanted. The descriptions were adequate to make a choice.
I chose the scale I wanted, added it to my cart and did just a bit of browsing around for the heck of it. Prices are very good for most items. I think went to the checkout where I learned my ground shipping costs would be $6.95 which I felt was reasonable for a scale of that weight. Checking out was breeze and I got my confirmation email almost instantly.
It took a couple days to get my shipping email and about six days for the order to arrive.
It came packed well and with all the necessary paperwork. My sister loved the scale so I had no need for customer service.
Shipping and Returns
Shipping charges are based on weight and location. You can find out what your charges are by adding items to your cart and filling out your address. You won’t have to give your credit card details to find out your shipping charges but it is still a bit of pain. I wish they had some sort of shipping chart even if it is an approximation of what your charges will be.
The returns policy stinks. You can return items deemed “returnable” if they are unused and in their original packaging but only have 10 days to do so and must get an authorization number before you return any item. They charge a ridiculous 25% restocking fee and well as not returning the shipping fee on returned items. I neglected to see this bit of info or I would have gone elsewhere.
You can’t return personal care, home products, pamper yourself products, baby products, sterling silver flatware, epilators, shavers, massagers, or medical devices, which is about all they sell.
Defective items must be reported to them within five days but then they say to open your package and inspect it before signing so I have no idea what their real policy is for defective merchandise.
Basically, if you get an item you like and that is in good working order, you will save some money and be happy. If you need to return an item or get something defective you may run into trouble and will definitely lose money.
It’s too bad they have such a restrictive returns policy because the prices on what they sell are good and the items are varied. I lucked out but, honestly, after studying the returns policy, I won’t take a chance shopping there again.

Recommendation
I lucked out. I got what I wanted and it was in good working order. However, had I run into problems, I fear I would have been a very unhappy customer. The returns policy is ridiculous. A 25% restocking fee on all returned merchandise as well as no return of the shipping charges PLUS the charge to ship back? Plus so many restrictions on what is returnable make me very leery to shop at this site again.
The prices are good and the variety of items is decent. But is it is like playing roulette and, as much as I like to gamble, I don’t when I am buying products online.
Although I had a trouble free experience, I can’t rate this site any higher than 3 stars and recommend that you think long and hard about whether it is worth taking a chance buying from Healthy Style Products.

I will not go back to the site because I won the luck of the draw the first time. I don’t want to push my luck any further.
