I am not a hair stylist. I can barely style my own hair. But I like shopping on “professional” styling sites because their products are often higher end and less expensive than at salons and I have found great deals on these little niche sites.

I recently made a fairly large order at Hair Products Online Store and am very happy with everything I bought.

I managed to get professional styling tools and aides for about the same price (sometimes lower) than on larger commercial sites.

What the Site Sells

Hair care products of every type. They sell styling tools for men and women, trimmers, shavers, professional hair shears, styling aides, shampoo, conditioner, and treatments, and some personal care products.

Navigation and Ordering

This site has many brand names and a large inventory but navigation is made simple through the many ways you can search the site. You can use the keyword box, the brand drop down box, the catalogue drop down box, and the many links for specific needs.

As well, they have hair care news and hair care tips. Not just a few, but a lot of info on several pages which will help you choose products for your hair type and length.

Photos are good (They take all their own pics) and descriptions are ample. This site is primarily for the professional hair stylist so you won’t get walked through every tiny detail but there was plenty of detail for me to make my choices.

Once you are finished shopping, you are ready to check out. To get there, you must register with the site. That’s as simple as providing your name, address, and email address. You will choose a password for future visits.

Once at the checkout, if your order is over $75.00, shipping is free. Otherwise, you will pay for UPS Ground shipping or more for expedited shipping. It’s to your advantage to get together with a friend and hit that $75.00 mark to save on shipping (but you already knew that!).

Checking out is simple. Input your major credit card details to pay online. You may also fax, call in an order, or send an order via snail mail.

You will receive a confirmation letter right after you pay. You will review another letter (a couple days later) with shipping info.

Your order should arrive within a week.

My Experience

I spent a long time on the site checking out the brand name salon products and tools. I finally decided on a set of professional hot rollers, a funky curling iron, and several smaller items.

My order, conveniently, was $77.00, meaning free shipping for me. And the stuff I ordered was heavy! I was not charged tax and paid via my MasterCard.

I got my confirmation email immediately and, two days later, an email told me my order had shipped. Later that day I received my tracking number.

My order arrived about five days later. Everything was as described, well packed, and to my liking. I definitely got some good deals on salon quality products and can’t imagine going back to mass-market store stuff now as far as styling tools go.

I had no reason to contact customer service, however, they have live chat on the site during business hours and encourage phone calls if you are unsure of a product or unhappy with an item you ordered.

I absolutely will order from Hair Products Online Store again. My son needs a “beard” trimmer and that is where I will purchase one. I just wish shipping were free with a $50.00 order rather than $75.00 but it’s easy to spend that amount when you see all the great stuff on the site.

Shipping and Returns

Shipping is free for orders in the US over $75.00. Below that, it is based on whatever UPS Ground bases rates on. Shipping seems to be about average for the price and weight of products when I tested out a few items.

You can choose from a number of expedited shipping choices for a higher fee.

There is only sales tax charged in California.

They will refund or exchange products within a 20 day timeframe. You will pay a 10% restocking fee unless the item(s) are damaged or defective.

All sales are final for opened styling aides and any other hygiene type items, including brushes.

Overall Impression

I loved the site. The volume of quality name brand items is large and it’s fun to browse around looking for stuff only hair stylists usually have access to. I bought some hair cutting scissors and they are just amazing. There is a difference between barber shears and regular scissors. My electrical devices are superior to similar ones I purchased at the likes of Wal-Mart but the prices weren’t much higher if at all.

I like that I can call and order or ask a question 24/7. That’s highly unusual.

Everything I ordered was as described, in perfect working order, and I am happy with everything.

Buying unproven styling aides may be a problem since they are non-returnable but the two I bought work fine and were on clearance for a ridiculously low price so I had no worries there.

I would — and will — shop on this site again and I recommend it to you. 5 stars for being able to buy quality hair salon and professional products for great prices!
