Decent, Conservative Clothing For Women of all Ages for Women of All Ages
Chadwick’s of Boston has been one of my favorite stores for years, so much so that I have their credit card and buy many pairs of Skechers because they deeply discount the less sporty, more playful styles.
The site is popular enough that sale items fly out of stock fast. The good new is that Chadwick’s is easy to navigate and the customer service is pretty decent.
Learning About Chadwicks
Chadwick’s is a division of the Redcats group of websites which includes Metro Style (formerly Lerner’s), Lane Bryant, Roamans, One Stop Plus, Jessica London, King Size Direct, Brylane, andLa Redoute. They also own the dreadful COB Outlet site which is a clearinghouse of Chadwick’s and other merchandise. I hate that site, which has nothing to do with Chadwick’s.
Chadwick’s is the conservative, traditional site offering sweaters, tops, tanks, jeans, dress pants, skirts and dresses, swimwear, outerwear, intimates, footwear, and some accessories.
Shopping is simple. Current specials and promotions line up across the front page next to the easy-to-follow navigation. Each category has subcategories that help you to drill down. You can also search via keyword or catalog number.
When I shop Chadwick’s, I usually look at the sales and then browse. Clicking on a subcategory will bring up several photos of individual items with the prices below them. Just about everything is on a model — a big plus! I want to see what clothes look like on real people, not mannequins or on a hanger.
Clicking images enlarges the photo and offers a good description. You can zoom in on the photos, but you can’t click on the color swatches to see what certain colors look like on the models. Bummer. With every photo is a size chart (watch your sizes – you may be able to move down one size) and a fashion glossary explaining fashion terms. Registered members get to add items to a wish list. There are also promo codes, but choose wisely because you can only use one code per order.
If you have one of their credit cards — either a Chadwick’s one or one of their affiliates — you can use that without even having to enter any numbers. Just click the card you want to use.
Confirmation emails are sent immediately and shipping emails arrive a couple of days later. Orders arrive on time, usually in the same heavy bags used by MetroStyle and La Redoute.
Chadwick Sales
Chadwick’s promotions have definitely increased more than any price increase over the years. The site often offers 40% or even 50% off one item or a straight smaller percentage off your whole order. Siigning up with the site to get their mailers is definitely worth your time.
My most recent transaction was just completed last week and everything went fairly well. I don’t like buying jeans here because they are cut full and they don’t give waist measurements. Their idea of straight-legged jeans is my idea of flairs. Their idea of low-rise jeans is my idea of mid to even regular rise. They often only offer inseams under 31″ and I need at least 32″ if not more.
However, they have some cute tops and sweaters, and I always check out their footwear because they have decent prices on many styles of shoes and boots.
Customer service is always a breeze. I have returned items, exchanged them, called for info and advice and never stumbled upon a rude or ill-informed rep. They are professional and get the job done.
Orders typically arrive with good quality merchandise and on time. The size chart is generally correct and the clothing isn’t skimpy or poorly made. I have shopped there for years and continue to shop at Chadwick’s without fear of terrible service or quality.
Shipping fees are a bit steep, starting at 5.99 and capping at 16.99. Chadwick’s has a liberal return policy with no hassle returns. Simply check a box on a form to explain why you are returning any item.
Chadwick’s is a deservedly well known name in women’s clothing and accessories, and the site is reliable.
